About Us

Our Philosophy and Facilities
Lusitano Classical is family owned and operated. Jane Creagh, the owner, takes a hands on approach as she is personally involved in the care and training of the horses in her charge. She especially enjoys working with young horses. In addition to horses owned by the ranch, Vermont Lusitano accepts a limited number of horses for training as well as standing Jupiter CR a lovely purebred Lusitano stallion.
Vermont Lusitano is a culmination of lifetime involvement with training, showing, and caring for animals. Jane's love of horses started when she was eight years old. While growing up she participated in 4H, pony club, fox hunted, and showed hunter jumpers. After a brief spell away from horses when her two children were born, she resumed her involvement with a specific interest in the Lusitano breed.
At Vermont Lusitano, you'll find the focus on the outdoors. Jane believes that horses, especially young horses and breeding stock are healthier and better developed when they are outdoors as much as possible. Mares and young horses are out on pasture as many months as the climate permits. During the winter months, horses are provided with run- ins with heated water and feeders. Stallions and young horses are worked in an indoor arena. During summer months, nearly all the horses in training are ridden out on the trails and on the property which are activities that Jane feels are mentally and physically beneficial for them. Giving horses as much exposure as possible to disciplines outside an arena produces the well- rounded horses you'll find at Vermont Lusitano.
